French River fishing reputation for quality fishing has been enjoyed for over 60 years. Fishing is our number one attraction. Ontario's most sought-after game fish are here. Walleye, Muskie, Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, and even a couple of lakes with trout. French River also offers Pan fish such as Perch, Sunfish, and Rock Bass. If you prefer the fishing challenge of Sturgeon, large Channel Cats, or Whitefish, we have them too.

French River, a Provincial Waterway Park, is best described as a 80 mile long series of island dotted lakes connected by rapids and falls that gently lower the river a total of 60 feet to the Georgian Bay, a part of the Great Lakes. Other than fast moving water, there are fishing areas that include weedy bays, coves, flats, rocky points, and mid-river shoals. A fisherman's dream and photographer's paradise.

Fish slot limits were placed in the French River and Georgian Bay in 1994. We have seen improvement through catch and release of these breeders in the slot size. Limits on number of fish per species were also reduced. These conservation efforts are maintaining and assisting the quality of fishing for sportsmen and fishermen in the French River, Georgian Bay, Canada, for years to come.

French River Resorts Association members participated in a walleye hatchery program along with the Ministry of Natural Resources for 7 years prior to the slots. Natural spawning since then has been preferred for the area. Other programs to maintain the fishery have included water quality testing, oxygen levels, and rod hours of catch, and many other research projects and have representatives from the membership on the Eastern Georgian Bay Stewardship Council (EGBSC).

Ministry of Natural Resources implements the 2010 Ontario Fishing Regulations- New Fisheries Management Zones.  Muskie season opens 3rd Saturday in June for Zone 10, 11 and 14 - with Georgian Bay having a new 54-inch minimum size limit added.  Bass fishing opens the 4th Saturday in June for French River fishing. New regulations on bluegills and crappies. Non-Resident Outdoors Card are valid for 3 years - cost $9.00 plus fishing or hunting license.
